Technology

Our systems combine custom field hardware with software we have built in-house for remote Australian conditions.

Embedded Sensor Platforms

Custom Linux-based field systems that connect a wide range of sensors for environmental and biological monitoring. Built for remote, solar-powered, satellite-connected deployment.

  • Ultrasonic microphones (M500-384, Pettersson Elektronik AB) up to 384 kHz
  • Thermal and colour cameras for video-based monitoring
  • Vibration sensors and atmospheric sensors
  • LiDAR for 3D cave structure and bat flight tracking
  • Biomark PIT-tagging integration
  • 24V solar power with Starlink satellite communication
  • Wildlife radar (BirdRadar FaunaScan MR2, X-band micro-Doppler)
  • Svantek SVAN 958A noise and vibration monitoring

AI and Analytical Software

Software we have built in-house, including bioacoustic classification, automated video analysis, and cloud dashboards. Six production acoustic models are currently deployed.

  • Deep learning bioacoustic classifiers (Ghost Bat, Diamond-faced Bat, Grasswren, Night Parrot, Horseshoe Bat, Bent-winged Bat)
  • CNNs on spectrograms, transformer-based models, and self-supervised embeddings
  • Rare event detection in continuous audio streams
  • BlobbyBat Counter and Flight Tracker for thermal video colony estimation
  • BatDASH online dashboard serving analysed outcomes to clients
  • SquawkChecker for managing putative bird identifications
  • Custom audio signal processing — raw audio to spectrogram to model inference on edge hardware and GPU servers
  • Re-engineered published pre-trained models (BirdNET, Google Perch v2) into optimised production pipelines

From Sensor to Decision

Data is processed on the edge and in our cloud systems. Clients view results through a secure dashboard, with outputs ready for reporting and decision-making.
